On Tuesday 17th October we will be hosting an IAS Friends and Fellows Coffee Morning, where we will be joined by our IAS Visiting Fellows Dr Alison Jane Martingano & Dr Benjamin David Goddard.

Please feel free to book using the button below, to come along an join us for an informal gathering with coffee and cakes to meet our Fellows.

Dr Alison Jane Martingano, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay

Dr Martingano, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. Her research focuses on understanding the nature of empathy and as well as designing interventions to promote it. Her work suggests that like exercising a muscle, activities that challenge people to practice taking someone else’s perspective should cultivate greater empathy over time. Following this logic, her research looks at how various activities (e.g., reading, virtual reality, socializing) and life experiences (e.g., emigrating, going to college) impact people’s empathy skills.

Dr Benjamin David Goddard, University of Edinburgh

Dr Goddard is currently a Reader in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, and a member of the Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences.  Broadly speaking, his research concerns modelling, analysis and numerics for complex, multiscale systems. His work has applications in chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, and social science.
